Life with the Lions
We’ve just completed another year of successful fundraising and service to the local community. Altogether, over £16,500 has been donated to local individuals, families and causes.Although the wind tried its best to spoil our efforts in November, we had a great firework display at the Racecourse, followed by our usual Santa collections at Christmas. Money raised from these and other events went to fund caravan holidays for local families, store vouchers at Christmastime and a day out at a theme park for local children with special needs. We’ve also supported requests from individuals in immediate need and joined with other local Lions clubs to fund a special trike for a disabled youngster.Overseas, we have donated to Lions International campaigns to help victims of the Philippines typhoon and floods in the Balkans, children affected by the conflict in Syria and have contributed to Lions International `One Shot, One Life’ campaign to eradicate measles in developing countriesIn addition to all this we have continued to distribute the Message in a Bottle canisters and support other organisations with their events by parking cars, manning road closures and acting as marshals. We’re now looking forward to the forthcoming year which promises to be just as busy as the last!
