Certificates of Appreciation
Lions of Newbury are delighted to be able to present individuals and organisations within West Berkshire certificates to recognise their service to the community during the Pandemic.
Over the next few days we shall be out and about saying thank you to these people for their support in our community since Lockdown
Our first certificate was presented by President Judith Colby yesterday to Joyce Lewis for her befriending phonecalls she has made since the beginning of Lockdown, ensuring many elderly citizens did not feel alone and acting on any needs requested. Thank you Joyce!
Certificates of Appreciation will be going to various individuals and organisations who have supported the community since Lockdown
Along with everyone else, Newbury Lions Club have found it difficult to raise money during the Covid-19 lockdown. The local District Council had swiftly set up a support hub that has operated efficiently during the crisis, with Lions registering individually as volunteers. Lion Maureen Benedict set up a community Facebook page to co-ordinate volunteers in her small village, which has many older people. She also began to cook a curry once a week for neighbours. This has now grown into a weekly Curry Club serving over 35 people each week.
The end of June saw the start of a new year in Newbury Lions.
Retiring President Peter Wood handed over to New President Judith Colby and a new team of officers.
We are also pleased to say one of our members Colin Mansell has become Zone President for our region!
Check out the Lions peace poster display at the Newbury Museum from Wednesday 8th January 10am till Thursday 30th January 4pm.
The is an exhibit on the 1st floor showing all 34 entries from Castle School for the peace poster.
