| | | | Fireworks 2008 on 1st November | Newbury Racecourse is once again the venue for West Berkshire’s greatest pyrotechnic display, with the fireworks set to music. This annual event is organised by the Lions Club of Newbury and the event this year will take place on Saturday 1st November. The venue boasts a large sheltered area providing excellent views of the firework display and an indoor licensed bar, as well as plenty of free parking.
This year, in addition to the fireworks and fun fair, there will be dancing displays by the All Stars Theatre Academy and Daphne Bennett School of Dancing and songs from Kennet Opera Society. This entertainment is designed to add extra dimensions to our event this year. The Kennet Opera Society will perform at 6.30pm and again after the completion of the firework display and the dancers will be on stage from 6.45pm.
The good news is there is no increase in the price of tickets for this year’s event. Tickets bought in advance are £4 for adults, £3.50 for those 5 to 16 years old and £12 for a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) from Tesco Superstore in Newbury, Newbury and Thatcham branches of Newbury Building Society and The Corn Exchange in Newbury. On the night entrance is £5 for everyone over the age of five.
Members of Newbury Lions will, as usual, be selling hot and cold drinks and burgers and hot dogs – all at reasonable prices. The profit, in conjunction with the gate monies, is used to fund the numerous charitable requests we receive from within the local area. In the last 12 months this has amounted to nearly £20,000 being donated to those in need within the local community. There will also be sales of doughnuts, hot chestnuts, candyfloss and toasted marshmallows. We are indebted to Kick FM for their excellent support both prior to, and during the event.
Safety is king in this event. The fireworks are separated from the public by the racetrack and 3 sets of fences so no one can get too close to the display. The Red Cross is on hand in case of any emergency.
As in previous years, and in line with DTI regulations, no sparklers will be sold or permitted on site. There will, however, be a large display of novelties and light toys for sale by the Lions, again the proceeds will aid our charitable causes.
The gates will open at 5.30pm and spectators can visit the fun fair and support both the dancing displays and the musical offerings from the Kennet Opera Society before the firework display itself begins at 7.30pm. This event is always a well supported with the spectacular display again organised by Fireworks and FX Advanced Pyrotechnics Ltd who promise an even bigger and better display for 2008.
Newbury Lions are most grateful for the support given by the Newbury Weekly News and Kick FM, as well as other major sponsors including Vodafone, Hillier and Wilson, BCL NuMedia, The Newbury Group, Shirley Hughes Financial Services, Debt Management Services, Gardner Leader, Donnington New Homes, Robinson Foods, Newbury Building Society, Griffins Financial Solutions and Castle Windows and Hewden Hire, with a very big thank you to Newbury Racecourse for providing the venue.
We look forward to welcoming all those who wish to celebrate an outstanding firework display at Newbury Racecourse on Saturday 1st November.
