Books all wrapped up for Christmas

A while back we were asked to support the World Literacy Foundation with a project called UK Reads which aims to get childrens books into every household across the country.

UK Reads in West Berkshire worked with Home Start and other local social services to identify children in vulnerable families with the aim that every one under the age 16 recieved a book for Christmas. UK reads identified 200 children in our area.

Our wonderful task was to help wrap all these books up ready for delivery!

Lion Maureen Benedict set up a community Facebook page to co-ordinate volunteers in her small village, which has many older people. She also began to cook a curry once a week for neighbours. This has now grown into a weekly Curry Club serving over 35 people each week.
