| Celebrate the 400th Guy Fawke's Night at Newbury Racecourse Newbury Racecourse is the venue for West Berkshire's biggest firework extravaganza, the Lions Fireworks Display - now costing over £12,000 to stage. The price of advance tickets at £3.00 has been the same for the last five years, The popularity of this extremely successful event enabled the Lions last year to double the site area. This now includes an indoor bar and covered area beside the Geoffrey Freer stand, providing yet more shelter and liquid "sustenance" in the event of inclement weather. Marshalled free car parking, a bonfire and a fun fair will provide an enjoyable safe firework show for all the family. Hot drinks, mouthwatering burgers and delicious hot dogs are all being sold by members of the Lions Club at very reasonable rates to raise funds for numerous charitable causes. Many people walked from the Town Centre last year but the Lions can ensure there are always car spaces on site with queues reduced to a minimum, particularly for those arriving early. Safety is King Safety is King in this event, and as the fireworks are separated from the crowd by the race track and three fences, there is no chance of any member of the public getting too close to the display. The Red Cross will be on hand to help in the event of any minor injury. As last year and in common with most other public firework events this year, there will be no sparklers for sale, but there will be a large selection glow in the dark novelties and battery operated fun 'things' that the Lions will be selling. Fireworks start at 7:30 Planning for this event was started in March and with over 60 people involved on the night the organisation required is formidable, but the Lions have been hosting a firework show at the racecourse for more than 25 years so we bring considerable experience. Gates open at 5:30pm and the fireworks display starts at 7.30 pm and is the areas biggest show attracting thousands to Newbury Racecourse. The ground effect fireworks last year were spectacular and this year, Pains, the fireworks company, have promised an equally exciting show. We expect another dazzling spectacle for this year. Free Tickets Children under 5 are free and tickets on the night are just £4.00 but buy in advance and you only pay £3.00! While advance family tickets are just £10 for two adults and two children. Kick FM will be giving away free tickets everyday for a week before the event and will be there on the night with more free goodies and great music. Advance tickets can be obtained from Tesco at Pinchington Lane, Newbury Building Society - Northbrook Street branch and Thatcham, the Tourist board in Wharf Street. Sponsors The Lions are most grateful for the support given by Kick FM and the Newbury Weekly News as well as the other major sponsors including Vodafone, James & Cowper accountants, C L M solicitors, Newbury Building Society, Bayer, Pallett & Collins Financial Services Ltd.
